…that the French government punishes its citizens if they publish videos or pictures of violent acts witnessed on streets? In March 2007 the French Constitutional Council passed a law to prevent regular citizens from provoking fights (aka happy slapping) in order to create video to post online. Unfortunately, “in the field of human rights, it is [citizen journalists] and not professional journalists who have been responsible for the most reliable reports and information—the information that has most upset the government,” argues Reporters Without Borders.
