Rumors about Windows’ Future Set Blogosphere on Fire

So, what was going on yesterday in the blogosphere? Hundreds of posts about Windows Vista’s successor Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 which will, according to numerous speculations, given up in favor for a Windows 7 Server edition.
Scott Wilson cites Mary Jo Foley with the following words:
…Windows Server 2008 R2 will be the next minor revision released according to the established roadmap, and that the company [ed: Microsoft] is not commenting on the name of the major version to follow… but that internally, “Windows 7 Server” is the codename for Windows Server 2008 R2.
While everyone is guessing, speculating and gossiping I believe MS has been able to send out a very important message with extremely little effort: the company is throwing in all its resources to improve Windows, both on the server and client side. Sure, it looks like a PR glitch but I am sure spreading equivocal messages about Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 has been a calculated step. As you can see: it worked very well. Everyone is talking about Microsoft.
Anyway, I’ve compiled a (by no means complete) list of posts for those who just can’t read enough of Windows 7 Server and the future of Windows Server 2008.
